A strongly hierarchical management culture
Danish business leaders face serious challenges in Russia due to cross-cultural differences in expectations of management behavior. In this article Marie Nytoft and Richard Gesteland offer advice for meeting these challenges, refering to their respective work experience as well as to feedback from seminars and interviews with Danish project leaders and expatriate managers.
It is critical for Danes to understand that, in contrast to the Scandinavia model of management, the Russian manager is an authoritarian father who knows everything and decides everything, and Russian employees rarely say “no” to the boss.
